Description

SilicateSilicate material (sand), dissolved in alkaline solutions (sodium and potassium) is called water glass. It has the same characteristics as glass, but at the same time because of its high alkaline properties, it is soluble in water and therefore it can be mixed into aqueous solutions under all conditions. It is manufactured by dissolving the sand and the solid crystals in the water glass.

The sodium water glass has various other applications because of its characteristics:

  • in detergents as de-flocking material
  • as a corrosion inhibitor and water softening agent
  • as binding material in the paper industry and in foundries
  • as additional material for acid stability and water density in construction
  • as stabiliser in sand dunes and avalanches
  • to quickly prepare stable clay suspension materials in ceramics

The potassium water glass can be used as a binding agent for the manufacture of welding powders and electrodes for use in electrical welding. It is increasingly being used for the manufacture of mineralised dry mortar and silicate paint because its properties render these materials water proof and steam porous. Due to its alkaline nature, it also has a bacterial effect which eliminates the accumulation of algae.

Dried sodium silicate (NADIS) - all needed information’s about dried sodium silicate you can find under product group Granulates.

We offer many different silicate products.
