Boehmite is an aluminium oxide hydroxide characterized with the chemical formula AlO(OH). Boehmite represents together with gibbsite the main source of aluminium compounds in most extended ore - bauxite. The company Silkem produce boehmite under the brand SIBOM.
The picture below shows the temperature of induced phase transitions from boehmite into different forms of aluminium oxide.
SIBOM is used in series of different applications, like general industrial use, catalytic converter production and use in coats of inorganic origins. Its use reaches out to paint industry, abrasives, corrosion protection, ceramic and fire resistant materials. One of the most important applications of boehmite nowadays represents its use as catalytic converter by cleaning automobile exhaust fumes. The thermal, mechanical and chemical treatment of boehmite represents also many additional use spheres, what enables the adjustment of some material properties to individual applications.
